The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world”. We are an international Christian Church whose message is based on the Bible; our ministry is motivated by love for God and the needs of humanity.
Last year we visited hundreds of homes and picked up thousands of pieces of furniture, clothing and household items. An enormous amount of time and energy went into ensuring our three Thrift stores were well stocked with everything you need to make your house a home. Why would we put so much effort into what would seem to be an endless job?
Each and every day we divert hundreds of pounds of scrap metal, plastics, clothing, books and so much more from the landfill. Our volunteers strip extension cords for copper, we separate plastics, tear material into rags and bag soiled and damaged clothing to be sent to the mainland for recycling. Does it make sense to do all this? Could an Army of 70 employees and 200 volunteers change the ecological footprint we leave for our children?
This year as you take inventory of all the things that you don’t need, consider donating them to The Salvation Army. We have the ability to turn the clutter from your basement into a treatment plan for a drug addicted father. We can take the few pennies that you threw into the kettle and use them to feed a single mom and we can take the rusted bicycle in your back yard and turn it into a warm bed for the homeless to sleep. We can do all this, but we can’t do it without YOU! The Salvation Army needs you to make a difference in the Comox Valley.
