Nestled above the Puntledge River, Downtown Courtenay offers a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. Stroll across the bridge at the bottom of town to the riverside Lewis or Simms Millennium Park to relax and unwind in the sun.

Lewis Park plays host to various sports teams, and offers tennis courts, lawn bowling and more. Located in Lewis Park is the Courtenay Recreation Association Lewis Centre, where visitors can play squash, take a fitness class, work out in the weight room and much more. Outside kids can cool off at the new kids' water park, or take a dip in the wading pool. An outdoor pool is also available, and the river alongside the park is a popular spot for swimmers during the summer.

The Recreation Association offers a variety of special fitness, educational and fun programs for all ages. For more information about programs and services visit the Courtenay Recreation Association

Across the street is Simms Millennium Park, which features meandering trails through the trees alongside the river. Kayakers can launch into the Courtenay Slough from Simms Park.

Another great walk from Downtown Courtenay is along the Courtenay Riverside Walkway, which starts at the bottom of 6th Street and follows along the Puntledge River out past the Courtenay Airpark to the Courtenay Estuary. This paved walkway is a popular spot for walkers, bikers, rollerbladers and joggers, and offers great views of the estuary, local birdlife and the small planes coming and going from the airpark.
